Block Paving Removal & Resin Replacement Questions

Every question we get asked about block paving removal & resin replacement, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

  • Do the old block paving blocks always need to be removed?

Not always. Loose, sinking or uneven blocks usually point to a base that needs taking up before resin can go down properly. If the blocks are stable and the base is sound, an overlay may hold. The specialist checks for movement and base depth on site before recommending either route.

  • Can resin be laid straight over existing block paving?

Usually not where the blocks move or the surface is uneven. Resin needs a stable, continuous base. If the existing paving has shifted or the drainage falls are wrong, laying over it transfers those problems to the new surface. The specialist confirms this at the assessment stage.

  • What happens if the base turns out to be in poor condition once the blocks are lifted?

If the sub-base is too shallow or has failed, it is rebuilt and compacted before the resin finish is laid. Because excavation, sub-base, and resin are quoted as separate line items, you can see the cost of each stage clearly before any work is agreed.

  • Will replacing the block paving stop weeds coming through?

Yes. Removing the blocks eliminates the joints where weeds and loose sand build up. A resin bound finish is a continuous surface with no open joints, which makes it far easier to keep clear than a block-paved drive.

  • Is it worth repairing the blocks instead of replacing them with resin?

If the damage is minor and the base is solid, repair may be enough. If the surface keeps moving, dipping or breaking up in multiple places, a full removal and resin replacement is usually the more durable option and avoids repeated patch repairs.
